While I can’t find anything that can replace the Amanti (yet), I know that I will eventually replace the 2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo X with a 2014/15 Grand Cherokee Overland. Not exciting, but I’m ok with that!

Do you all have planned replacements for your cars?

Nope - my car is irreplaceable. If someone makes another fun to drive, reliable,  small minivan with a manual transmission I might be tempted to replace mine, but since that’s extremely unlikely I’ll just hang on to what I have until they take away my license...

I would like to replace my Prius with a BEV eventually.

As a significant percentage of my driving is road trips, long range and a robust charging network is important to me. The robust charging network requirement basically means Tesla is it (seriously, Electrify America is an expensive joke).

As far as which model... I really like the Model 3, and a Model 3 LR RWD would be my ideal (except for its suffering critical existence failure now), except for the lack of a hatch, as my road trips often involve bulky cargo. I really don’t want a crossover (but I may settle for a Model Y if it’s low enough ), and the Model S is too big and expensive for my tastes.

Considering a few replacements for the 3. Maybe a 6 or a CX 5.

I’m 2 years out on that though, hopefully. Going to keep the 3 until it dies.

No, we're in it for the long haul. Primary cars are a civic and a pilot, both 2016 or 2017s, I forget which. Hope they last forever. The miata and truck combined have 400,000 miles on them, but if that bothered me I wouldn't have bought either of them.

Our NX 300 is a lease, so we will be required to find something else in about a year.

No idea what it will be though. I’d like to put my money where my liberal mouth is and go electric, but the reality of owning one isn’t quite what we would need it to be yet. Which means getting a hybrid possibly, but I’m not enthused about many of those on the market.

Mrs. ADabOfOppo also wants a convertible at some point soon.

If Jeep made a Wrangler pickup convertible hybrid and a manual I think we’d probably have one...

The closest I have to a replacement planned is to swap my wife’s Odyssey for one that is 7-10 years newer.

On my side of the driveway, the old Sienna isn't going anywhere,  but there is a new stablemate I plan to write about once everything is official like..

My wife’s car will be paid off early next year and then I’m planning on upgrading my beater ‘93 escort to either a small stick hatch like a fit or mazda2, or else a grand Marquis. And then further down the road I’d l ike a second car for funz and the missus wants a mazda3 to replace her rio if it's in the budget.

So the Stringbean is sitting at 89k miles and the timing chain has to be replaced before 120k. I've decided that's not a task I'm willing to accomplish or pay for (considering the cost of that job is likely more than what the car is worth.) The good news is I only put a couple hundred miles on it per year. So where does that leave the replacement? Probably a few years from now she'll get offloaded onto some highschool student as their first car and then I'll pick up something tiny, preferably a convertible again. Either a modded to hell Miata NA/B/C, Fox bodies arent my style and I'll go mod broke, a sky or solstice if they still exist or even a C5.

My 2011 Camry is at 148,000 miles so it’s something that is creeping in to the back of my mind. That said it’s shown no signs of problems so far and I don’t have it paid off yet. Ideally I’ll hold onto it for a long time, I do around 15,000 a year so I should have a few years left. I’d like to pay it off and run it for a while. Maybe keep it and add an affordable fun car. That way the Camry still covers the practicality bases. I’d love to get a c urrent WRX, 2015-current mustang or current civic SI when they sink to around $10,000 but that will take some time unless I go base model Mustang which I could see myself doing. I won’t be buying anything unless I have to until I graduate undergrad in the next couple of years.

No idea. I’m constantly thinking about what will replace the E90 but I really can’t think of a good replacement. I think the most likely route will be a truck, which I hate. Mountain biking has become my #1 summer fun activity so my next vehicle will need to focus on making that easier. However I really want to stick with a manual trans, and finding a small manual pick up isn’t getting epany easier.

For my wife’s Fit, that’s a far off. She legitimately plans on handing down to our son when he gets his license. He’ll be 11 in February so that’s 5-6 years down. I hope to replace her car with a full EV when the time comes but who knows what will be on the market by then.

The Acclaim will likely need replacing next spring. Mechanically it’s fine, but the passenger floorpan is giving way to rust after 25 years of WI winters combined with POs who thought an oil change every 15k was good maintenance.

I’m leaning on a Kia K900 or a Hyundai Equus for a replacement, a V8 luxury cruiser sounds perfect and they can be bought a couple years old cheap.

Although Mrs. Long_Voyager is thinking a Wrangler, which I’m not against either.

My garage is actually in a state of complete equilibrium with the addition of the X1- it is exactly what I wanted so far. I think very likely our next car purchase will be a 2-3 year old VW ID Buzz for my wife, assuming they ever make it. But that’s 5-6  years off I’d imagine. I wouldn’t be too surprised if my wife gives before that moment comes and decided she wants a Kia Niro or something.

The ‘15 Accord only has 54k miles on it, so it’ll be staying with us for a while.

The ‘05 Tacoma with 121k miles has a fresh frame underneath it, and most likely has a long life ahead of it. I love the truck (2wd 5spd 4cyl) ...but I have a wandering eye and have always said that if I find something else I want more, that truck is going up on the block right away.

The e82 135i. No suitable replacement at my price range. Rwd, manual, comfy car worth <20k. Think about an m2 but that’s essentially the same thing. Gt4 is a pipe dream. 4c or an Elise are the other contenders. NA1 Nsx is another contender in there.

CU2 accord euro (acura tsx). Boring, low mile s. No plan to replace. It’s a comfy daily.

My wife’s manual BL Mazda3. She wants a Cx5 and there is no other option she would consider. I want her to get an i3 haha. Cx5 will come probably in time for kids in the next year.

I’ve had my Cherokee for... 18? years... It’s not going anywhere.

I just bought the Routan and I plan to drive it into the ground as the family vehicle until a minivan is no longer necessary, so that’s also a no.

I’ve had the S uburban for a couple years now and I love it a bit more every day . 3/4 ton SUVs are in short supply and it’s a perfect family tow rig for the travel trailer. One day I might consider a GMT900 Suburban 2500 just because it got the 6L90E transmission and a couple extra gears would be great, but I’ll probably just stick with this one and mod it to suit my needs. So that’s a no, too.

My Studebaker? No.

My ‘86 K-5 Blazer? I'm hoping to get it eBay ready in the next couple of months. Then it'll be on to the next project/flip. I like reviving/restoring old cars and giving them new life. If I make it profitable then there's value in it and it's seen as a worthwhile use of my time by the Mrs. So that's always been the goal for the Blazer.

I always have a wondering eye but I’m trying to hold on to my 2018 GTI for a while. The good news is there isn’t really anything on the market right now that I’d rather drive, that I can afford anyway. So my passive car shopping always ends with me asking myself “would I really like this more than the GTI?”, concluding that I would not, and resetting in an endless loop.

I’ve got 27k on it now and drive about 15k miles/ year, so the 72k warranty should run out a little before the 5 year mark. I’d like to keep it another year or two after that, VWness pending. After which the likeliest replacement is the Mk8 GTI honestly, unless something really interesting comes along. The next Mazda6 is rumored to be going RWD for example  which very much intrigues me...

My M3 is 11 years old, but there’s still really nothing with 4 doors that I’d rather have to replace it. We’ll see what the next few years brings.

My Tacoma is just 1.5 years old and it should be in the family for another 15.

Do it!

Will it be the only car in the house? If not, there are enough EV options out there that work as a second car. Or at the very least some decent PHEVs. My EV lease (~75 mile range Spark EV, being a second car it was never an issue) ended a month ago and am pretty set on getting a PHEV to give us a bit more flexibility (and generally a cheaper car with decent range) as my next choice. I think the Volt (discontinued, so not much new stock but used ones are getting cheap) and the Clarity PHEV are the best options. Note that these are the 2 that are closest to a true EV…many others need to turn the gas engine on for heat, etc. The Clarity was a hell of a deal in 2019 with all the incentives, but may be harder to find in 2020 as Honda made it order-only outside of CA.

The electric drivetrain solve a lot of the roughness and NVH issues of cheaper ICE cars – the Spark was super quiet and a ton of fun to drive. I wouldn’t hesitate looking at some of the Kia/Hyundai options too. If I could find a lightly used Clarity that is priced decently I’d buy one, but they all have a TON of miles and are priced at pretty much what I know the owners must have paid out the door for on those damn things. Hopefully more will hit the market with time.

Both our cars are new to us within the last year or so. Wife’s CPO 2016 Outback we will hold on to probably 3 more years or so, doesn’t really drive it much. Will likely replace it with a new Outback then...or a Volvo wagon if we can afford it and reliability is proven to be OK in the current gen.

My 2005 E46 ZHP (that I bought last year) I don’t want to sell, but hopefully will get stashed away as a weekend car . Will ideally replace the Spark EV lease that ended last month with a PHEV for commuting (leaning off lease Volt or a Clarity) sometime within the next year or so (ZHP is doing daily duty until then).

Hoping for a promotion at work within the next month or so, hopefully that pans out and helps/accelerates these decisions a little bit.

I spend every few days going between a used but maintained rad wagon (E34 5 series? Country Squire with an LS? The possibilities are endless...), a new wagon a la Buick or Volvo, and a Charger sedan or unicorn 6MT Chevy SS. Ask me tomorrow and my focus will be on another group of cars that fits somewhere between these three.

The reality is I will probably take the wife’s ‘14 EB Flex and throw a tuner on it, and spend the rest of my time looking for a LeMons quality heap on the local Craiglist.
